Our site

‘St Catherine’s Home, with its striking chapel tower in French gothic, happily remains an arresting sight... ’

The centre at St Catherine’s is in a truly stunning coastal and hillside location with panoramic sea views overlooking the small Victorian town of Ventnor which is reputed to be the sunniest place in Britain.

Set in several acres, with extensive car-parking facilities, it is less than five minutes’ walk to the bustling High Street and 10 minutes to the Esplanade and sandy beach.

With a secure, grassed and terraced activity area, there is a football pitch and basketball/tennis court - as well as a range of play facilities.

Unfortunately, given the steep gradient of many parts of the site, disabled access is not yet available.

About Ventnor and the Isle of Wight

‘…  the prettiest place I ever saw in my life, at home or abroad’ – Charles Dickens, novelist (1812-1870).

Known as the Garden Isle and reached easily by ferry from Southampton, Lymington or Portsmouth, the Island is both a beautiful and an exciting place.  Children and adults alike are brought alive by the fresh sea air and healthy lifestyle.

Sheltered from the north by the National Trust-owned St Boniface Down, Ventnor on the south coast of the Island benefits from its own micro-climate and there are many miles of coastal walks, bays and places of interest to explore.  In the town itself there is a variety of local shops, restaurants and pubs – many of which serve freshly-caught local fish, with crab and lobster being Ventnor specialities.  To the west of the town lies Ventnor Botanic Gardens which showcase exotic plants from around the world in themed gardens within a beautifully landscaped setting.

There are many attractions close to Ventnor including Blackgang Chine amusement park, Robin Hill Adventure Park, Amazon World Zoo Park, Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Carisbrooke Castle, Owl & Falconry Centre, The Donkey Sanctuary and the Isle of Wight Zoo.

For lovers of the outdoor-life, the Isle of Wight is a wonderland of opportunity. Just some of the adventures close to hand are Wight Water Adventure Watersports, Allendale Equestrian Centre, Goodleaf Tree Climbing and Paragliding with High Adventure.

While for keen walkers, as well as footpaths that criss-cross the Island, there is also the Isle of Wight Coastal Path that crosses its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ventnor is situated along this 67 mile path and also features the highest point of the Island, St Boniface Down, which is 241 metres high.

There are many attractions on the Island, but at just 13 by 23 miles, they are never more than a short drive away. We look forward to welcoming you to your Island adventure.
