Education

St Catherine’s provides a modified curriculum based upon the National Curriculum that has been developed specifically for learners with speech, language and communication impairments.

In our caring, friendly environment children and young people are given the time and support necessary for them to learn.  Each learner has his/her own individual programme that fits within the School and FE Centre’s Scheme of Work, allowing individual needs to be catered for within a modified learning environment.  By adopting this approach young people become involved with their own education.

Learners

In order to meet the needs of language-impaired learners, St Catherine’s has a policy of maintaining high staff-to-learner ratios that facilitate greater individual attention.  Class groups are arranged according to key stage and, where appropriate, year groups.  Each class has a teacher and a speech and language therapist.  Additionally learning support assistants work with learners both within the classroom and on a one-to-one basis.
