Grove Hill Further Education Centre (Sixth Form)

Grove Hill Further Education Centre is our Sixth Form within St Catherine's for the education of learners between the ages of 16 and 19 years who have a speech, language and communication impairment.

At St Catherine’s we believe the integration of speech and language therapy in the curriculum and vocational training provision offers the best learning environment for our young people. 

The Centre offers an integrated educational programme which blends vocational and academic courses, speech and language therapy and independent living skills within a residential setting. 

Our classes are small and suited to the need of the learners.  The aim of the Further Education Centre is to prepare and support young people for the next phase in life.  Each class is assigned a trained and experienced teacher and a speech and language therapist.  In addition to this expertise, there are learning support assistants and occupational therapists.  The entire St Catherine’s team works to support the development of skills that will aid learners as they move from adolescence to adulthood.

Further Education Learners

There are three residential houses for Grove Hill Further Education Centre, two on the centre site and the third a short walk from the main site in town.  Care staff are available night and day. 

Our holistic approach ensures each and every learner has access to high quality learning and personal development relevant to their needs.

Our central location in the beautiful coastal town of Ventnor provides a fantastic resource for our young people to practice their skills outside of the learning environment.  Our young people join community based activities and entertainment, participate regularly in local youth clubs, interest groups and in the wide range of sporting activities the Island offers.  They learn how to budget and manage money, practice their language and communication skills in the local community and take part in work experience with local businesses.  St Catherine’s learners also have their own Youth Chamber Council and the Council fully participates in activities/events of the Isle of Wight Youth Chamber.
