Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps people of all ages better perform the skills necessary for living life to the full. For children and young people this means playing, learning and daily life activities such as eating, dressing and washing.
The occupational therapy team work across the Main School, Further Education Centre and through our outreach service. Consistent with the overall holistic ethos of St Catherine’s, occupational therapists support our learners through a combination of individual programmes, paired or group working, support in specific lessons and through advice and programmes available to the entire St Catherine’ team, parents and families.
The occupational therapy team develop and support our learners':
- Sensory integration skills
- Gross motor skills
- Fine motor skills
- Visual perception skills and
- Functional activities of daily living.
These are fully explained in the St Catherine’s Occupational Therapy download available in Further Information Page.
Because of our learner-centred approach and the spectrum of impairments of our children and young people, the work of our occupational therapy team is all encompassing including:
- everyday activities, such as washing, preparing and eating meals, shopping or transport;
- the use of equipment or adaptations to help with daily living;
- leisure and social activities;
- coping skills, such as relaxation techniques, assertiveness or positive thinking;
- social skills in dealing with others;
- work and study skills.
