St Catherine's School
St Catherine’s School is approved by the Department of Education (DofE) as a non-maintained residential special school for the education of learners between the ages of nine and 19 years who have speech, language and communication needs.
This page focuses on our main school (11 to 16 years of age). For details of our sixth form (16 to 19 years) please refer to our Further Education Centre.
At St Catherine’s we believe the integration of speech and language therapy in the curriculum offers the best learning environment for our children and young people.
Education is based on the revised National Curriculum and the individual needs of each learner as detailed in their Statement of Special Education Need.
Our classes are small and taught within Key Stages suited to the needs of the learners. Each class is assigned a trained and experienced teacher and a speech and language therapist. In addition to this expertise, occupational therapists are available to learners as appropriate. Each class is assigned a learning support assistant.
There are three residential houses for St Catherine’s School learners. The boys are within two houses St Christopher's and St Joseph's and the girls are in Chapel Landing within the main school campus. Each house has its own dedicated care team led by a Team Leader. The care team also lead on individual learner participation in the wealth of activities and in the use of facilities available in Ventnor and the Isle of Wight.
Our holistic approach ensures each and every child has access to high-quality learning and personal development relevant to their needs.
