Vocational Training at St Catherine's

In recent years St Catherine’s has developed its vocational training service in recognition of the increasing need of young people with communication needs to gain the appropriate experience and opportunities to enable them to consider further learning/training or the right work environment.

The Work Station offers a spectrum of work-training facilities including arts and crafts, brick laying and construction, digital photography, music and beauty & personal care. Course modules vary from 6 to 7 weeks for non-accredited training to 2 years for the accredited construction training. Half-termly accreditations are also offered in AQA and OCR units, in subjects including art and craft, media and more.

The Work Station operates from a commercial building near St Catherine’s centre. The Work Station participants come from St Catherine’s, special needs units within mainstream schools and other voluntary sector organisations working with individuals with special needs. The Work Station also now offers courses over the school holidays to all young people aged 12-18.

The project facilitates partnership working across the third sector and the commercial sector.

The Work Station is an evolving project.  If you are interested in finding out more about the project and our approach we would be delighted to share our experiences with you.
