The beautiful town of Ventnor and the Isle of Wight

Our central location in the beautiful coastal town of Ventnor provides a fantastic resource for our young people to practise their skills and gain social confidence outside of the learning environment.

Children and young people enjoy greater self esteem and confidence when they are connected to the life of their school and the wider community.  At St Catherine’s our learners have the unique opportunity to gain real life experiences in using our additional classroom resource – the supportive community of Ventnor.

Our young people join community-based activities and entertainment, participate regularly in local youth clubs, interest groups and in the wide range of sporting activities the Island offers.

They learn how to budget and manage money, practise their language and communication skills in the local community, travel on local transport and take part in work experience with local businesses.

The Island is a rich resource for learning and living.  Almost half of the Isle of Wight is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Our learners - whether in school or leisure time - do not need to venture far to discover glorious countryside and fascinating wildlife.  As summarised in the Activities, Sports, Interest Groups Page, rewarding activities and facilities are plentiful across the Island.
