Speech & Language Therapy
Speech, language and communication needs are often referred to as a ‘hidden disability’, which is why we start your child’s journey through school with a detailed assessment of their strengths and needs in speech, language and communication. This enables parents and carers to truly understand their child’s needs, often for the first time.
Every student at St Catherine’s benefits from a range of speech and language therapies, delivered by trained specialists. These can be:
- one-to-one, in pairs or small groups
- class-based
- functional sessions within the local town setting
- sessions involving residential houses and families
- or specialist support, such as high-tech augmentative and alternative communication devices, signed supported English and symbolised resources
These therapies are delivered within the framework of each child’s tailored plan.
Each year, an annual review report is prepared by the child’s speech and language therapist; and in each transition year, students will also complete a full re-assessment, informing decisions about their educational journey.
“Pupils flourish at this school due to the strong emphasis on developing their communication skills and the way that they interact with others.”
